Wheeee! Free GOLD for your Daily GO Bonus in Monopoly Hotels!

There you have it, folks: EA has decided to reward all their fans for trying valiantly to reach the 70k likes: for a limited time, your daily GO bonus is GOLD instead of M$!

It's not a HUGE amount of gold, but even if you roll double 1s, you will at least get ONE gold bar. And if you roll double 6s, you will get 6 gold bars. Not bad!

That's what happened the last time I logged in to the game: I rolled 8, and the game gave me 4 free gold for that. As the blurb says, you get half your rolled value in gold.

Remember that you can log in multiple times each day to collect more free gold from that dice spin ... I suspect you can get at least 4 dice throws each day, so you will get at least 4 gold each day for pretty much zero effort. The highest I've rolled so far is 4 gold, but a friend did roll double sixes and got 6 gold. Yay!

I like when EA decides to do nice things for the fans!

Remember, this is a "limited time" feature, so play frequently for the next couple of days at least! Maybe this is EA's idea of giving out candy for Hallowe'en - trick or treat, and what a NICE treat it is!

Nice work, EA!

SALE! 50% OFF Platinum Dice Rolls!

One more goodie from EA for the Monopoly Hotels this week: in addition to the new Fairy Tale rooms, they've also dropped the price of the Platinum Dice Rolls by half.

"What is a Platinum Dice Roll?", you ask?

Well, you know how, when you start the game after having done something else for a few hours, it starts off by having you toss a pair of dice, and gives you your daily GO Bonus (200 times whatever you roll on the dice, in M$)?

The very next screen is the option to purchase gold ... right now, you can purchase 60 times your roll for $4.99 (no, that is not Monopoly dollars, but real ones).

Well, that 4.99 price is half off from last week's price of $9.99. And that is your Platinum Dice Roll.

It may not seem like much, but remember that even if you only rolled 2 ones, you'd be getting 120 gold bars for that price.

Personally, I never do buy the Platinum Dice Rolls (nor anything else that requires cash) in this game, but it's certainly one way to pick up some gold without having a long wait.

If you are looking to spend a small amount of real money to purchase a reasonable amount of gold, then this half-price sale may be your best bet.

ALL-NEW Fairy Tale Rooms Available Now!

Today's update has two new Fairy Tale rooms: The Feathered Cap room and the Flying Carpet room. Wonder why they went for Pinocchio and Aladdin as the themes this week ...

But still, that's two new rooms to build and two characters to collect for your Guest Book.

The details?

The Feathered Cap Room (Pinocchio, as far as I can tell) costs 475 gold bars and pays out M$3,833,333 and 120,000 experience points every 23 hours. It takes up 6 squares in a regular hotel.

The Flying Carpet Room, on the other hand, costs 650 gold bars, and it pays out M$2,875,000 and 200,000 experience points every 23 hours. This room "only" takes up 4 squares in a regular hotel.

My take on it?

Mmmmm.

I'm wishing at least one of these rooms could be purchased with cash, but it is what it is.

Given that both rooms pay rent at the same interval (23 hours) and both cost gold to buy, the comparison is actually quite easy: the average for the Feathered Cap room is M$27,777.78 and 869.57 XP per square per hour while the Flying Carpet room pays M$31,250 and 50,000 XP per square per hour.

So if you could only get ONE of the two? Well, I'd still be torn.

The Feathered Cap is cheaper, but also pays out less rent and XP each hour than the Flying Carpet room.

The bottom line is that neither room is a spectacular performer, so I think I'll wait until they either go on sale or I have enough cash and gold coming in every day to not mind paying large amounts for these two rooms.

In the meantime, I still haven't achieved my quest of owning at least one Flute Room ... I think I'll go back to focusing on that for now.

But these two new rooms (and the characters within) *would* be nice to have in my Guest Book ...

WHEE! Another fun Thursday update (October 25th)!

Well, it's Thursday again, which means Monopoly Hotels was due for an update.

Usually it's either the addition of a couple of rooms, and/or a sale on some of the rooms you can build.

Today, though, I hear that Electronic Arts has not only added some rooms (more Fairy Tale rooms) and has a sale on (the Hallowe'en rooms, of course), but in addition, they have a new sticker, AND they've added a couple of floors to some of the hotels!

I can't wait to get home and install the update!

There may be more than what I've outlined ... this is all I can remember from what my friends have told me so far! We're ALL excited about today's update!

Tuesday 23 October 2012

What will Thursday bring?

I admit, as we get closer to Hallowe'en, I am getting more excited about what Electronic Arts has up their sleeve for the holiday.

This Thursday's update (most of the game updates seen to happen on Thursdays) should be very interesting, indeed.

Especially given that Hallowe'en is on October 31st, which is the Wednesday after this one ... that would be the ultimate day of whatever holiday special is laid on for this week.

My guess? I am anticipating (hoping, really) that the Hallowe'en themed rooms (the Monster rooms, I mean) will go on sale. 30% off? 50% off? I don't know, but it sure would be nice.

And I've heard rumours that EA is planning to do "something special" with the witch in the Broomstick room - apparently right now she has neither a name nor any particular animation if you stab at her room. I've also seen a beefy guy in a white T-shirt strutting across the promenade ... rumour has it that he's the one who turns into a werewolf. I tend to lean towards believing that rumour simply because he has sideburns ... :)

Whatever EA does, I'm just hoping that there is a sale involved, maybe more hotels and guests putting on Hallowe'en outfits ...

In other words, I'm primed for something fun to show up later this week.

Now I'm off to collect rent from my hotels in hopes of saving up plenty of cash and gold for Thursday!

Saturday 20 October 2012

Ka-Ching! Just got my sticker (and 75 gold!)

I've been playing Monopoly Hotels obsessively these past few days, clicking on everything that falls from the sky, in an attempt to gain more of those gold-paying Community Chest cards.

Why? Because I am hoping to save up enough gold before the current sale ends, so that I can purchase one more of the Golden Cauldron rooms.

An unexpected (well, not entirely unexpected!) bonus was that I apparently also accelerated my trip to the next M$ sticker.

Yes, indeed.

This morning, just as I finished collecting rent from one of my hotels, I happened to click on one more of the falling banknotes ... and ta-dah!!

Of course, Mr. Monopoly was followed by the Facebook update notification:

And, finally, a view of the completed sticker:

And here's what my sticker book looks like with this sticker in it:

Fun!

I like getting 75 gold unexpectedly. Too bad I've already collected all the easy-gold stickers - I've already caught Jake 1,000 times (that happened a couple of weeks ago), and bought most of the properties.

I refuse to buy the remaining properties until there is a sale - mostly because I don't actually need any new hotels right now: I am still working on filling the hotels I already have with rooms that pay better rent. You see, right now, most of my hotels are filled with TopHat rooms - I do have a few Key, Campsite and Rock Wall rooms, but recently I have been focused on saving enough for a Microphone rooms or three ...

The only M$ sticker I still have left to collect? The Millionaire ... I'll be working on that as I keep playing, I guess. Obviously, I have just completed 25% of that one ... I suspect it will take several months to complete all one million M$ with falling cash ...

SURPRISE! The Golden Goose / Golden Egg Room is BACK!

Really.

Truly!

The Golden Goose / Golden Egg room is BACK!

I just logged back into the Monopoly Hotels game, and it downloaded something from the EA site again, so I checked to see what it could be.

There was nothing obvious, until I clicked on the Build options, and there, among the Guest Rooms:

I notice that it again says; "Limited Time", so if you want it, GRAB it right now. I have no clue how long the "Limited Time" availability will last this time around.

Also, I note that the price is significantly reduced: just 155 gold bars. When this room originally debuted, it cost 450 gold bars - and I actually spent that 450 gold to grab this room. Oh, well.

In terms of investment, it's not all that great: check out my original blog post about whether it would be worth buying one of the Golden Goose rooms. Of course, temper that with the fact that this time around, it costs about one third of it's initial asking price.

Or you may just like having Abigail in your Guest Book - I notice she's back in mine even though I haven't bought a second Golden Goose room from today's offering:

Enjoy!

What to buy: Monster rooms or Gold-producing rooms?

This week, we have two choices: the brand-new Monster rooms and 30% off the gold-producing rooms.

Which should I spend my M$ and gold on, I wonder?

The Broomstick room is the cheapest of the new Monster rooms, at M$35,000,000. It pays out M$500,000 and 5,000 experience points every 6 hours. However, it takes up a fair amount of space: 6 squares of your hotel. The average yield for this room is M$13,888.89 and 138.89 XP per square, per hour.

The Full Moon room costs 80 million M$ and pays out M$1,041,667 and 10,000 experience points every 5 hours. This one is an even bigger space hog - it takes up 8 squares in a hotel! That brings down the average yield to 26,041.67 and 250 XP per square per hour.

The Ghastly Chains room will set you back 1,050 gold bars: it has the smallest footprint of all the Monster rooms, though, taking up just 2 squares! The yield? Not so great: M$16,875,000 and 60,000 experience points every 45 hours.
Average yield? M$187,500 and 666.67 XP per square per hour.

And finally, we have the priciest of the Monster rooms: the Slimy Trident room costs a whopping 3,200 gold bars - is that the most expensive gold room we have right now? I believe it just might be! It pays out M$57,500,000 and 350,000 experience points every 2 days and 21 hours, while taking up 6 squares of a hotel, taking the average yield down to M$138,888.89 and 845.41 XP per square, per hour.

I would argue that, for the price, you are better off picking up one of the gold-producing rooms. Not the Golden Touch room, which I still believe is outrageously priced for only paying out a single gold bar every day, but any of the other gold producing rooms: the Gold Mine, Golden Cauldron, or the Golden Treasure.

Of course, if you've been playing since February, you probably have all the rooms anyway: in that case, definitely stock up on the Hallowe'en rooms and add the new characters to your Guest Book!

Golden DEAL! 30% off Rooms that produce Gold!

In my advance notice review of the new Hallowe'en-themed rooms, I mentioned that gold rooms were 30% off.

Well, I was wrong.

It's not all gold rooms, only the gold-producing rooms, that are 30% off:

I guess that means I won't be buying that first Flute room any time soon, because it's simply too expensive at full price! But I may save up for a second Golden Cauldron, which, in turn should shorten the time I have to wait for a Flute room!

(Oh, anyone notice that the Golden Mine Cart room got renamed? It's now called the Gold Mine room - I have to admit, I like the new name better, it fits in with the general theme of gold-lust!)

And, of course, the Golden Treasure room in the Aquarium is also on sale right now:

ALL-NEW MONSTER ROOMS Available Now!

This is a fun new update from Electronic Arts ... makes me enjoy turning on the old iPhone and looking at the Monopoly Hotels game (it was getting a tad boring). There are still no new hotels, but at least this time the rooms are rather fun.

There are several (yes, more than two!) new Monster rooms, and they are all in the regular hotels. All of them are slightly creepy-looking, especially the appropriately named "Slimy Trident" room!

Check them out, the new Broomstick, Full Moon, Ghastly Chains and Slimy Trident rooms:

None of these new rooms are gold-producing rooms, and they are all extremely expensive, so I predict they will remain unaffordable and out-of-reach unless you are at higher levels of the game. Or, of course, if you are willing to pay cash to buy M$ or gold, then you can have them instantly just as soon as you wish!

In case you haven't already noticed ... the background has changed. It's now late night within the game, and the fluffy white clouds in a pale blue sky have been replaced by the streaky white clouds and a full moon shining over the hotels.

Oh, and check out what Connecticut Avenue looks like right now (only in miniature view and just before it shows you all your rooms): it's all decked out as if for a Hallowe'en party - FUN!

There are no new attractions in this release, but there are several new Decorations as well - all Hallowe'en-themed.

Neither the rooms nor the decorations are marked "Limited Time", so maybe they will still be here once November 1st comes up in a few weeks - here's hoping, because I'd like to add these new characters to my Guest Book!

Nothing new in the Museum, Zoo, or Aquarium for this release.

All in all, it's rather a fun time to be playing Monopoly Hotels!

New for this week: Hallowe'en themed rooms in Monopoly Hotels

I hear that, in today's update to the game, Electronic Arts has released several new Hallowe'en-themed rooms.

Well: "several" means at least two - I'm hearing that there is a Broom room and a Werewolf room, both paying out cash, not gold. I don't know if these are rooms that appear in all the regular hotels or only in the special properties like the Zoo and the Aquarium.

I wonder how long these new rooms will last. Given that they are holiday-themed, maybe they are only here for a short time, i.e. until October 31st? Does anybody know if the rooms are marked "Limited Time", like the Golden Goose / Golden Egg room was when it made its two-week appearance?

Also, the gold rooms are now apparently 30% off.

Oh, and apparently the room backgrounds have changed - it's night in Monopoly Hotels?

I can't wait to install the update, but may have to wait until tomorrow because I am swamped at work.

Tuesday 16 October 2012

Half-price gold rooms sale is still on!

At least, it was still on when I last checked, mid-afternoon today.

Now I'm getting pretty stoked ... I've finally saved up 994 gold bars.

I'm pretty sure I'll be able to come up with the remaining 6 gold bars by the time the sale ends - usually some time Thursday, if the past few weeks are any indication.

I do have a Golden Goose room, so even if I don't collect gold from any falling Community Chest cards, I should still be able to collect the remaining 6.

To hedge my bets, I've also been building a few rooms I'd ignored so far because they are not high-yielding rooms. But now that we get a gold bar for updating Facebook when we add new guests to our Guest Book ... well, it was a no-brainer, and it only hurt when I started adding the rooms that cost up to or close to a million and paid out just a few tens of thousands per day or whatever.

Here's what I mean:

Oh, well, I've no intention of keeping those low-paying rooms - they are simply a means to an end: the end being me having 1,000 gold bars, so that I can buy my first Golden Cauldron room.

Yes, I'm aiming at the Golden Cauldron instead of the Flute room, despite my real lust for one of those Flute rooms ... it's just that, at half price, it makes SO much sense to pick up a room that will give me 30 gold every single day, helping me rack up my next 1,000 that much faster, and thereby helping me to grab not one, but hopefully multiple Flute rooms over time.

Too bad you can't actually exchange gold for M$: I'd have been quite happy to trade some of the gold produced by the Golden Cauldron for some other high-value rooms, like the Microphone room ...

Want free gold? Help EA get to 70,000 likes on their Facebook Fan Page

You read that right.

Electronic Arts wants more fans to "Like" their Facebook fan page for Monopoly Hotels.

As an incentive, they're promising gold when they hit 70,000 Likes ...

Of course, it doesn't say how *much* gold per player, but hey, at the absolute minimum, they'll have to pay out ONE gold per player ... that could add up to 70k gold given away. Of course, that would still only be ONE gold per person ... so what?

EA were initially targeting October 15th for the 70K likes, but given that they're still only at 53 thousand something (and today is the 13th), I doubt they are going to hit 70k by October 15th.

The sooner, the better for all of us, is my take on this promotion.

If you already have a Facebook persona, you've probably linked it to your game already to collect free gold every time you unlock a character or complete a sticker or move up a level in the game.

Why not help us ALL get more gold? Go to the Monopoly Hotels Facebook Fan page and click the "Like" on the page itself (not on the individual posts, by the way!)

Here's to more GOLD! For EVERYONE!

What to buy: Rescue Buoy Room vs. Piano Room

Another pair of rooms that is pretty interesting today (remember, right now, there is a 50% discount on all rooms you buy with gold): the Piano Room and the Rescue Buoy Room.

The Piano Room is cheaper (175 gold bars right now, compared to 425 for the Rescue Buoy Room), and they both pay out M$1,000,000 every 3 hours.

In one way, it's a no-brainer. If all you have is 175 gold bars, then pick up the Piano Room. This also holds true if you have less than 175 gold bars, but plan to add more properties of a single colour to pick up some extra gold by completing the sticker for properties of that colour or by chasing that burglar assiduously ... and *still* don't foresee having enough gold to buy a pricier room by the time the sale ends.

Of course, the sale could end Sunday night - EA has done that before. On the other hand, the sale may only end mid-day Thursday, if it lasts a full week like the recent sales have done.

No non-EA-insider can predict the length of the sale, so think about it and decide what your comfort level is. If you think the sale will last until Thursday, then your best bet is to get aggressive about collecting gold (Community Chest cards, filling up your sticker book, signing up for Origin and adding friends, filling out surveys ... whatever) so that you have some choices come Wednesday night. (I would be leery of waiting for Thursday morning - who knows what time the next weekly special will start?)

If you think the sale will end Sunday night, get completely aggressive so that you have your maximum gold by Sunday evening and then purchase the best room you can afford at that time.

As I said, at first glance, there isn't much to choose from between these two rooms - you might as well go for your preference of looks or what you don't yet have in your Guest Book or whether you like the colour of the life-guard's T-shirt or whether the Piano room guy's hair bugs you.

After all, they do pay out the same in rent, right?

Not quite.

The Piano room costs 175 gold, takes up 4 squares, and pays out 125,000 experience points every 3 hours in addition to the M$1,000,000 rent.

The Rescue Buoy room costs more than double that (425 gold), but only takes up 2 squares of your hotel. On the other hand, it only pays 50,000 experience points every 3 hours.

Once again, let's do the apples-to-apples comparision:

Piano Room:
  • Cash: M$1,000,000 / 4 / 3 = M$83,333,333 per square per hour
  • Experience Points: 125,000 / 4 / 3 = 10,416.667 XP per square per hour

Rescue Buoy Room:
  • Cash: M$1,000,000 / 2 / 3 = M$166,666.67 per square per hour
  • Experience Points: 50,000 / 2 / 3 = 8,333.33 XP per square per hour

So ... that makes it a little bit more interesting.

Cash-wise, you'd be better off going for the Rescue Buoy Room, because it pays out double the rent per square for any given 3-hour period.

Space-wise, too, if you have the gold to do it, you could have two Rescue Buoy rooms in the space taken up by a single Piano Room.

However, if you're really eager to collect every available experience point, you may want the Piano Room instead. Keep in mind that EA has recently raised the XP required to advance from one level to the next at all levels above level 40.

On yet another hand: if you don't care about space, you just want to build up your cash reserve as fast as possible: go for the Piano. Two of those will cost you less than a single Rescue Buoy, and you will still have some gold left over ... maybe enough to grab a Barbell room as well (that's another million every 12 hours).

My suggestion: Don't have enough gold to buy a Rescue Buoy room (or an even more pricey room - Flute, maybe, or the Golden Cauldron)? Then go for the Piano Room. Otherwise, go for the Rescue Buoy room.

If you happen to have enough gold to buy *two* Rescue Buoy Rooms, consider saving up just a little longer to pick up either a Golden Cauldron or a Flute room - also, consider buying at least one Golden Treasure room because it pays rent in gold bars rather than cash.

And if you haven't even got enough to buy your first Piano Room, you can still step into the million-dollar rooms - save up 75 gold bars as fast as you can (catch every single community chest double!) and then buy a Barbell room - it will pay you M$1,000,000 every 12 hours. Not quite as quick as the other rooms, but at least you'll be playing in the multiple-million-rent-per-day range, which makes it easier to pile up cash for the other, even more pricey rooms.

What to buy: Golden Cauldron Room vs. Golden Treasure Room

With the sale this weekend on gold rooms (half price on all rooms you buy with gold), you really are spoiled for choice on where to spend your hard-earned gold.

There are SO many choices, and you're going to want the best bang for your buck. Which, of course, depends on how much gold you have saved up.

One thing, though: there are two types of rooms you buy with gold. One that pays rent in M$ (the vast majority of rooms) and then the other kind, those that pay rent in gold.

The gold-producing rooms are still relatively new, introduced just over 2 weeks ago by Electronic Arts, and, truth to tell, I've been ignoring these rooms because I'm in a snit at having bought the Golden Goose room at full price when it first came out - and really, really, REALLY not liking the yield of 1 gold bar every six hours.

But this week, with the sale on, I'm ready to consider the other gold producing rooms.

If I had just enough gold to get started, my first purchase would probably the Golden Mine Cart room ... currently available for a very affordable 26 gold bars (you DO click on every Community Chest card, and you HAVE activated all your sticker collections, right? so you probably have at least that much gold - and if not, you have a couple of days to quickly collect that much gold!)

But assuming that you have more gold, that you've been assiduously saving up for that special room you've been lusting after (Flute room? Rescue Buoy room? Piano room?) ... you now have choices.

If you had been planning to splurge on a Flute Room, you may now be tempted to spend that gold instead on a gold-producing room, instead. But which one?

There are two that tempt me: the Golden Cauldron room (any hotel) and the Golden Treasure room (only available in the Vermont Aquarium).

But they are fairly different in both yield and size, not to mention a hefty price difference.

The Golden Treasure Room currently costs 391 gold bars on sale, and the Golden Cauldron Room is discounted to 1,000 gold bars. So you could buy just about two and a half Golden Treasure rooms for the price of a single Golden Cauldron room ... is it worth doing that?

The Golden Treasure Room takes up two squares and pays out rent of 4 gold bars and 100,000 experience points every 10 hours.

The Golden Cauldron Room takes up 6 squares and pays rent of 10 gold bars and 250,000 experience points every 7 hours.

And again, my brain can't exactly figure out which is better unless I compare apples to apples.

So here goes. I'll just do what I usually do ... compare the per square yield per hour so that I have them side by side.

Golden Treasure Room:

  • Gold: 4 / 2 /10 = 0.20 gold bars per square per hour
  • Experience points: 100,000 / 2 / 10 = 5,000 XP per square per hour

Golden Cauldron Room:

  • Gold: 10 / 6 / 7 = 0.24 gold bars (approx.) per square per hour
  • Experience points: 250,000 / 6 / 7 = 5,952.38 XP per square per hour

So really, not all that much difference between the two rooms.

Your guess is as good as mine as to which one(s) to pick up. I am still tempted more by the Golden Cauldron room, simply for the minor increase in both gold and XP per hour.

I must point out that it depends also on how frequently you collect rent ... if you can collect multiple times a day, you want rooms that pay out more frequently.

With a day job (and a terribly busy one, at that), I tend to be hit-and-miss in my rent collecting, so I've tended to do slightly-lower-value-similar-yield rooms (Top Hat rooms instead of Thimble rooms, for example - there is NO way I am checking for rent every 45 minutes!).

Bottom line? It depends.

Sorry, but that is the reality.

It depends on how much gold you have saved up, and what your collection frequency is.

You can get 2 Golden Treasure rooms right now for less than you'd pay for a single Golden Cauldron room, which means you'll be collecting rent 2 times a day, and will wind up, on average, with 16 gold bars each day and 200,000 XP from those two rooms.

Or you could pick up one Golden Treasure (sacrificing 6 squares of your hotel), and collect rent 3 times a day, to pick up 30 gold bars and 750,000 XP ...

Keep in mind, too, that Golden Cauldron rooms can be built in any hotel, but Golden Treasure can only be built in the Vermont Aquarium - and seriously, I'd fill the Aquarium with these Golden Treasure rooms ASAP just because the other Aquarium rooms are SO lack-lustre in comparison! (It's just a question of time - my Aquarium is going to be tiled with these Golden Treasure rooms, just maybe not this week!)

I *was* going to spend the gold on the Flute room, but I just realised that would mean a one-time purchase, whereas a gold-producing room will mean the ability to buy *more* gold rooms as time goes by ... colour me enlightened!

Happy gold-gathering! I'm off to collect more Community Chest gold in hopes of getting to my first Golden Cauldron room this weekend. If I don't get to 1,000 gold bars, then I will definitely splurge on one or two of the Golden Treasure rooms.

Friday 12 October 2012

ALL-NEW Attraction: The Statue of Liberty Room!

This week, in addition to the 50% off gold rooms, EA has also introduced a new attraction, the Statue of Liberty Room. It's an Attraction, so it can go in all the regular hotels, just like any of the Guest Rooms - not in the Zoo, the Aquarium or the Museum, though.

As it happens to make its debut during a 50% off sale, this room is currently available for 850 gold (I suppose full price will be double that, 1,700 gold bars).

It takes up 8 squares in your hotel and the yield is M$22,500,000 and 300,000 experience points every 12 hours.

That averages out to M$234,375 and 3,125 XP per square every hour.

Not bad at all ... but there is an argument to be made that the Disco Bowl may be a better bargain ... after all, it only costs 325 gold and pays out M$10,312,500.

But that is just the immediate impression.

The Disco Bowl only averages M$57,291.57 and 1,111 XP per square per hour, so definitely grab the Statue of Liberty if you're looking for a high-yielding attraction - not to mention yet another pretty entry in your Guest Book!

SALE! 50% OFF Rooms you buy with Gold!

There we go.

It's true.

Rooms you buy with gold are again 50% off.

It seems to happen occasionally - and this time, it includes even the rooms that produce gold, not just the ones that cost gold to buy and then produce M$ for rent.

Both Guest Rooms and Attractions are on sale, but not Decorations. If you want decorations, hold off until those go on sale ... in the meantime, pick up the rooms that will generate something interesting in rent, or at least will perk up your Guest Book.

There are buy-for-gold rooms in all the "specialty" properties, too: the Aquarium, Zoo and Museum all have half-price gold rooms right now.

And in the Tennessee Zoo, we have these ...

And finally, in the Ventnor Museum:

Bottom line? You have a TON of choices of gold rooms right now - it just depends on what stage you are in the Monopoly Hotels game and how much gold you already have saved up (or purchased) or can save up before the sale ends.

If you're new to the game, then you can easily earn enough gold from the sticker book to pick up a few of the cheaper gold rooms, like, say, the Golden Mine Cart room, which is now only 26 gold bars and will produce 1 gold bar in rent every 2 days and 21 hours.

If you've been playing for several months, chances are you have a fair amount of gold saved up, despite the occasional unintentional spend of a few (or more than a few!) gold bars when you double-tap on a room "in progress" and it decides to swipe some gold to complete the progress of that room.

If you DO have some gold sitting around, you are spoiled for choice right now.

There are some *very* tempting rooms at 50% off ... the Neanderthal and Volcanoes rooms in the Ventnor Museum are fabulous for yield - the Volcanoes is about twice the yield of the Neanderthal, but costs almost 5 times as much; in the Vermont Aquarium, you have the gold-producing Golden Treasure Room - 4 gold every ten hours is nothing to sneeze at, especially if you cannot check the game very frequently and so rarely roll doubles for the Community Chest cards.

For the Tennessee Zoo, I have to admit, even at half price, there's really nothing to write home about, but this is a nice chance to fill up your Guest Book with habitats/guests you normally wouldn't even consider.

Among the Guest Rooms, there are definitely tempting choices: the Rescue Buoy Room is only 425 gold right now (yields a million M$ every 3 hours, and only takes up 2 squares), or you could consider the Piano Room, which also yields M$1,000,000 every three hours - it takes up 4 squares but only costs 175 gold right now, so it is definitely one of the most affordable million-dollar-producing rooms right now.

The cheapest million-dollar-producing room, of course, is the Barbell room at 75 gold - it only takes up 2 squares and pays out M$1,000,000 every 12 hours. Not bad for such a reasonable investment (most of the M$1,000,000 producing rooms are out-of-reach for beginners, not this one!)

If you're on the hunt for gold-producing rooms, then you'll be torn between the Golden Treasure Room in the Aquarium and the Golden Cauldron in regular hotels ... the Golden Treasure room only produces 4 gold every 10 hours compared to the 10 gold every 7 hours of the Golden Cauldron, but it also costs *much* less, 391 gold bars as opposed to 1,000 gold bars.

So there you have it. This is a nice weekly special from Electronic Arts, and I know I am not the only one who's been saving up in hopes of such a sale. I am still a little short of the gold required to buy my first Flute Room, but hopefully I'll manage to save up enough to buy one before the sale ends. If not, I guess I'll at least grab one of the Golden Treasure rooms so that my *next* attempt will go a little quicker!

Of course, rooms that you pay gold to purchase do NOT require additional gold or M$ to build, so this is truly a half-price sale ... you don't speed up the build/paint time, but you definitely get more bang for your purchase buck!

Enjoy your gold rooms!
